FAQs

  • Hypnosis is a natural, altered state of awareness where the body becomes deeply relaxed and the mind gains heightened focus and concentration. In this state, everyday distractions fade into the background, allowing you to direct your attention inward and access the subconscious mind more easily.

Far from being mysterious or magical, hypnosis is a well-researched psychological phenomenon. It works by engaging the same mechanisms the brain uses during the REM (Rapid Eye Movement) stage of sleep — the time when we naturally process emotions, thoughts, and experiences. By gently activating this state, hypnosis creates an environment where the mind is more receptive to positive suggestions and new perspectives.

  • Psychotherapy, sometimes called “talk therapy,” is a supportive process where you work with a trained therapist to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours in a safe and confidential space. The aim is to help you better understand yourself, develop healthier coping strategies, and make positive changes in your life.

  • Hypnotherapy can help with; Stress, Anxiety, Low mood, Negative thoughts, Confidence, Sleep Problems, Depression, Pain management, OCD, Anger, Symptoms of IBS, Fears & Phobias, Smoking or Vaping Cessation, Trauma, Weight Management and many more.

  • During your session, we’ll begin by focusing on the positives — I’ll ask you “What’s been good?” to help shift attention toward what’s working well in your life. From there, we’ll explore how the mind works and gently challenge any negative thought patterns that may be holding you back.

We’ll then talk through your goals and what you’d like to achieve, creating a clear vision of the changes you want to make. Finally, the session concludes with hypnosis — a deeply relaxing experience designed to reinforce your intentions and embed the positive outcomes we’ve discussed.

Each session is tailored to you, helping you feel calm, focused, and ready to move forward with confidence.

  • Sessions can take place either online via Teams or face to face in my therapy room in Northamptonshire.

  • Yes — hypnosis (sometimes called trance) is completely safe. In fact, most of us naturally drift in and out of trance states throughout the day without even realising it — for example, when you’re absorbed in a workout at the gym, deeply focused on a TV show, or driving a familiar route on “autopilot.”

It’s important to know that you remain in control at all times. You cannot be hypnotised to do anything against your will. Hypnosis simply helps you access a calm, focused state of mind where positive change becomes easier.

  • The number of sessions you’ll need depends on your personal goals and reasons for seeking hypnotherapy — everyone’s journey is unique. Many people notice improvements after their very first session, while 8–12 sessions are typically recommended for lasting, long‑term change.

For smoking or vaping cessation, just one focused session is required.

  • Hypnotherapy sessions are 50-60 minutes long. Smoking or Vaping cessation is a 90-120 minute session.
